Air India surpasses one million inflight Wi-Fi users

Air India has revealed that more than one million passengers have connected to its inflight Wi-Fi service over the past year, highlighting the growing demand for onboard connectivity.

According to usage data covering the period from June 2025 to June 2026, passengers travelling on the airline’s Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft consumed almost 500TB of data while flying on more than 55 daily services.

The airline said adoption of the service has risen significantly over the past 12 months, with the proportion of passengers using inflight Wi-Fi increasing from 30% in June 2025 to 55% in June 2026.

Social media proved to be the most popular use of the service, with almost 89% of connected passengers streaming content while in the air. The remaining 11% used the connection for web browsing, emails and messaging apps. Overall, streaming accounted for 86% of total data consumption, compared with 14% for web browsing.

The figures currently reflect usage across Air India’s fleet of 28 Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft, which operate long-haul services to destinations including London, New York, Newark, Frankfurt, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bali, Manila and Mauritius.

Air India said the milestone marks the beginning of a broader transformation of its onboard digital offering, with additional aircraft and routes set to receive Wi-Fi as the connected fleet continues to expand.
