Wizz Air plans to introduce Starlink inflight connectivity across its fleet from 2027, becoming the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to announce the satellite internet service.
The rollout will begin next year, with Wizz Air expecting all new-generation aircraft to be equipped with Starlink. Passengers will be able to access high-speed, low-latency internet throughout their flight.
The announcement follows a growing number of airlines adopting SpaceX’s Starlink technology as demand for gate-to-gate connectivity increases. While the service has initially been introduced by a number of full-service carriers, low-cost airlines are also beginning to invest in onboard connectivity as passenger expectations evolve.
Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer at Wizz Air, said: “Ultra-low-cost travel has always been about making opportunities accessible to more people. In 2027, we’re taking that philosophy into the space era. Our customers shouldn’t have to choose between affordable fares and reliable internet onboard to stay connected to the people, work, and moments that matter most.”
Starlink is already being introduced by airlines including Qatar Airways, United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and airBaltic, with several other carriers announcing plans to add the technology to their fleets.
