Virgin Australia serves up new inflight menu

Virgin Australia has revealed a refreshed Business class menu and 12 additions to the airline’s Economy buy onboard menu, marking one of the biggest investments in its menu offering in five years.

The new Business class menu has been designed in collaboration with its catering partner gategourmet and taste tested by the airline’s cabin crew and some of Velocity Frequent Flyer’s most travelled members.

Made from locally sourced Australian produce, the menu features popular dishes from a variety of global origins, including modern Japanese, Indian, Mexican, Italian and Western dishes.

All menu selections in Business class will have vegetarian options, including some vegan and ‘low-gluten’ dishes.

New Business class dishes include corn fritters with goat cheese and capsicum relish; cheese and chive crumpet with bacon, scrambled eggs and beans; soba noodle salad with chicken and teriyaki dressing; cheese tortellini Caesar salad with optional prosciutto and a mango coconut cake.

The Economy menu features 15 vegetarian and vegan options, as well as three gluten-free choices.

Passengers in Virgin Australia’s extra legroom seats, Economy X, will also have access to the airline’s new buy onboard Economy menu.

“As a culinary development team, we have been proactive with Virgin Australia in the creation and implementation of bi-annual menus,” said Steve Sweetman, Executive Chef Culinary Excellence Oceania, gategourmet. “It starts from the sourcing of local and Indigenous products, looking at the flexibility in design to cater to most dietaries with sustainable products and niche products that also have a great story.”
