Intervine has become the exclusive provider of a premium line of artisan Belgian-style waffles to airlines and cruise lines.
It says Le Waf is a unique take on the classic Belgian waffle “golden baked with caramelised Belgian pearl sugar for a rich, crunchy texture in every bite”.
Founded in 1997 in Monterey, California, Le Waf has grown into a widely-known brand featured at iconic international events including the Olympics, the US Open and the Super Bowl.
“We’re excited to boost the nostalgic pleasure of Le Waf in the skies,” said Jonjie Lockman, CEO of Intervine.
“It’s more than just a snack. When served warm in premium cabins, the irresistible aroma and flavour create a memorable experience for passengers. Le Waf also provides airlines with a high-quality, easy-to-serve product that holds strong potential for onboard retail in the main cabin.”
Le Waf waffles come in a variety of flavours, including Choco Chips, Cinnamon, Blueberry, and Apple-Cinnamon for sweet and on the savoury side Bacon, Mango-Chili, and Chives, Chipotle and more.
“Interestingly, airlines have actually served more savoury waffles with lunch and dinner than sweet ones for breakfast, which often surprises people,” said an Intervine spokeswoman.
She said the initial outreach to airline clients regarding Le Waf has just begun and follow-up calls will be happening over the coming weeks to ensure all key contacts are aware.
“What’s fantastic is that Le Waf has a history of selling to airlines and cruise lines directly before our partnership, including past placements on American Airlines, United, JetBlue, and Air New Zealand. Intervine, with our 33 years of airline partnership experience, is thrilled to join forces with Le Waf to significantly grow its reach in the airline market.”
The product is available in a variety of formats to suit inflight service requirements, including dry mix, frozen dough, bulk packs, individually wrapped and retail-ready wrapped units.
The spokeswoman said Le Waf’s versatility makes it perfect for various airline service models. Its pre-baked format is ideal for efficient inflight service, simply requiring heating and serving as part of a meal. For buy-on-board or main cabin snack service, the individually-wrapped waffles are a convenient option, whether offered in snack boxes or passed out directly to passengers.
