Emirates Flight Catering acquires Bustanica

Emirates Flight Catering has acquired Emirates Bustanica and its consumer brand Bustanica, the “world’s largest” indoor vertical farm.

The move is focused on enhancing food and water security, as well as agricultural capabilities.

Farm-fresh produce from Bustanica is now available onboard Emirates, including lettuce, spinach, parsley and kale. Grown without pesticides or herbicides, the range is 100% clean and rich in nutrients.

Passengers can eat its leafy greens, herbs and microgreens straight from the box.

At 330,000 sq ft, Bustanica’s facility is based near Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central. It has the capacity to grow more than one million kilograms of leafy greens a year — the equivalent to three tonnes daily — while using 95% less water than conventional agriculture.

Agronomy experts, engineers, horticulturalists and plant scientists make up the brand’s specialist team.
