Cooler technology showcased by Delta Flight Products

An efficient new cooler prototype, seating for persons with reduced mobility and the SkyPulse data monitoring system were among the products showcased by Delta Flight Products (DFP) at the 2025 AIX.

A prototype of the Arctic Aero chiller system was on display at DFP’s stand. The system utilises Thermo-Electric Coolers – a semiconductor base of solid-state ceramic squares – plus pumps to chill water and air rather than Freon.

The cooler is estimated to have a 200,000-hour lifespan, 10 times that of conventional coolers. It is scalable and looks set to reduce maintenance costs by approximately $300,000 a month.

Only minor galley modifications will be required to install the Arctic Aero chiller system.

A fully engineered Economy triple seat developed with AirforAll for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) was showcased at this year’s trade show. The seat does not require structural modification to the aircraft and can be transformed for wheelchair use in approximately 90 seconds.

The solution reduces risks for PRM travellers, explained Jack O’Keefe [pictured], Mechanical Design Engineer at Delta Flight Products.

“The big challenge flying when you’re disabled is, typically, you have to transfer out of your personal wheelchair and into an aircraft seat. At that point, they’ll put your personal wheelchair in the cargo hold, that process is both dangerous and frequently damages wheelchairs. So the goal is to have your personal wheelchair be able to park on the plane. It removes a lot of pain points from the user’s experience, so it is helpful to both the passenger and the airline,” he said.

A Business seat for PRM passengers was also displayed at the stand.

Additionally, DFP has developed an inclusive lavatory to meet accessibility rules and regulations, including the 2023 amendment to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Carrier Access Act. It features touchless operations, grab bars and a changing table that supports weights of up to 100lbs (45.36kg).

The IoT Ecosphere, a system connecting aircraft sensors, has predictive maintenance capabilities which enhance system availability and reliability. The data can be offloaded to airlines’ systems or interpreted using DFP’s SkyPulse monitoring system.

Automated reporting goes on in the background and it has push notification, so maintenance crews can be alerted as soon as problems are detected.
