Hamburg-based Cabin Digital Platform start-up AERQ will discontinue its business activities and immediately stop offering and development of its platform-based inflight entertainment (IFE) system AERENA, the company has announced.
AERQ, founded in 2019 by Lufthansa Technik and LG Electronics, has been developing a digital cabin solution for commercial airlines, known as AERENA. The latter was recently launched for operational demonstration on an Airbus A320.
In a statement the company said: “Although the AERENA product has so far met all expectations in terms of features, quality, and customer satisfaction in ongoing flight operations, AERQ was facing significant obstacles to enter a very sensitive market for IFE systems. For this reason the shareholders have mutually agreed to conclude AERQ’s journey here and part ways. AERQ’s operations will, as a result, cease with immediate effect.”
This decision affects around 180 employees at AERQ’s Hamburg headquarters, who have already been informed. The orderly closure will be concluded as part of a wind-down procedure, which is currently being prepared.
