BermudAir has placed its first-ever order with Airbus, signing for 10 A220-300 aircraft that will support the airline’s network expansion while enhancing the onboard experience for passengers.
The order, unveiled at the Farnborough International Airshow, marks BermudAir’s debut as an Airbus customer and will see the carrier introduce a new generation of aircraft designed to offer greater comfort alongside improved operational efficiency.
The A220-300s will be configured with a 135-seat, three-class cabin, providing passengers with a spacious interior, larger windows and quieter cabins. The aircraft’s performance will also enable BermudAir to launch new non-stop routes across Bermuda, the Caribbean and North America, giving travellers more direct connections and greater scheduling flexibility.
Adam Scott, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BermudAir, said the aircraft was selected not only for its operational capabilities but also for the passenger experience it delivers.
“The A220 is the ideal aircraft to support the next phase of BermudAir’s growth,” he said. “Its exceptional range, operating economics and performance at constrained airports will allow us to connect more communities across Bermuda, the Caribbean and North America with direct, reliable and convenient air service.
“Just as importantly, the A220 offers an outstanding passenger experience. BermudAir has quickly established itself as the premier airline serving Bermuda and the Caribbean, supported by a differentiated onboard product and 70+ Net Promoter Score. The A220’s spacious, quiet and comfortable cabin is perfectly aligned with the experience our guests have come to expect from us.”
For passengers, the fleet investment is expected to translate into a more comfortable journey as well as access to new destinations that were previously beyond the airline’s network. The aircraft’s long range and ability to operate efficiently from constrained airports will allow BermudAir to introduce additional direct services, reducing the need for connections.
From an environmental perspective, the A220 also offers a 25% reduction in fuel burn and CO₂ emissions per seat compared with previous-generation aircraft, supporting the airline’s ambitions to grow sustainably while serving the island and Caribbean markets.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, said the agreement demonstrates the A220’s suitability for regional carriers looking to expand.
“BermudAir’s selection of the A220-300 validates the aircraft’s role as a tool for targeted regional development,” he said. “This agreement introduces the A220 to a distinct operational environment in the Atlantic and Caribbean, demonstrating how its efficiency supports tailored business models.”
