John Horsfall prepares to Re-Thread

John Horsfall is turning the spotlight onto a range of recycled, regenerated & plant-based fibres & fabrics for use in onboard comfort items.

The company’s Re-thread programme helps airlines take a holistic approach to sustainability, taking into account all aspects of the product lifecycle; from raw materials to logistics, packaging, longevity, laundry and end-of-life disposal.

The range includes: Re-Thread blankets- innovative woven blankets using fibres generated from post-consumer-waste, Re-Thread fillings for pillows, duvets and mattresses made with 100% recycled fibre fillings, and Sorona® – Dupont’s eco-efficient performance fibre made from 37% annually renewable plant-based ingredients.

The team offers bespoke design opportunities for the Re-Thread blankets which aim to lessen micro-plastic shedding compared with fleece blankets but also last at least 100 washes.

The fillings use plastics diverted from landfill but offering the same levels of comfort and warmth as virgin fibres. Sorona is being recommended for fillings in premium pillows as a non-animal alternative to feather and down.
