British Airways unveils new cabins for A380 retrofit

British Airways has unveiled the new cabins and onboard experience set to feature on its first retrofitted A380, with the aircraft expected to enter service in the coming months.

The refurbishment forms part of the airline’s multi-million-pound investment in its long-haul customer experience and is one of the most extensive cabin transformation programmes undertaken by the airline. More than 35,000 individual parts will be installed on each aircraft, including new seats across all four cabins, updated inflight entertainment screens and redesigned galleys and stairways.

The A380 will feature 106 Club Suite business class seats across its entire upper deck, making it the world’s largest business class cabin. The refreshed Club Suite includes additional storage and updated finishes, while four cabin zones will feature dedicated dwell areas, Club Kitchens and redesigned galley spaces.

In World Traveller Plus, passengers will receive new seats with larger inflight entertainment screens and privacy wings, alongside new bedding and pillows. A new reusable amenity kit, designed as a tote bag, includes Dr.PAWPAW moisturising balm and travel essentials.

Economy passengers will also benefit from new seats, larger entertainment screens and upgraded bedding, including fuller pillows and warmer blankets featuring British Airways’ blue and red Speedmarque detailing.

The retrofit also introduces the airline’s new First suite, first unveiled in 2024. Designed around greater privacy and comfort, the suite features a stowable table and centre-seat divider that can be opened to create a shared space for passengers travelling together. A minibar is also integrated into the seat.

First passengers will receive new Swaine amenity kits stocked with Wildsmith skincare, alongside new sleepwear and slippers. At bedtime, crew will prepare the suite with a mattress, cotton duvet and redesigned pillow.

The airline is also introducing a refreshed First dining experience across its long-haul fleet. The new ‘From the Grill’ concept allows passengers to customise their meal from a selection of proteins, sides and sauces, while new stoneware and fine bone china have been introduced alongside a dedicated drinks menu.

The dining service will be supported by specially trained First Service Specialist cabin crew, with an updated training programme designed to enable a more personalised service.

Sean Doyle, chairman and CEO of British Airways, said the A380 transformation represented “one of the most significant transformations” the airline had undertaken on an aircraft.

“We’ve completely reimagined the customer experience, introducing new and updated seats in every cabin, all carefully considered to deliver greater comfort and an elevated customer experience,” he said.

The new cabins build on the design concept introduced across British Airways’ short-haul fleet in 2024, with herringbone detailing and the airline’s blue, red and cream palette used throughout the aircraft.

The airline said the first completed A380 will enter service in the coming months, with the retrofit programme forming part of a wider investment in its customer experience.
