Viasat introduces its application hosting product

Viasat has unveiled an application hosting product, the Viasat Connected Partner Platform, that enables airlines to enhance the inflight Wi-Fi experience for passengers with curated apps, while offering monetisation opportunities.

The Viasat Connected Partner Platform is designed to be flexible and place the power of choice with airlines and is operational. It includes a portfolio of strategic application providers that integrate with Viasat’s inflight connectivity service.

For airlines, the product offers optionality for inflight retail, e-commerce for products and services, moving maps, games and destination booking services that align with the airline’s preferred onboard experience and business objectives. Meanwhile, it encourages meaningful passenger engagement.

The app hosting product enables airlines to host their own applications to provide passengers with a more curated experience.

Partners currently on the platform include Omnevo, Gladi8tor Games, Bluebox, FlightPath3D, Mozio and DiscoverCars.com.

The Connected Partner Platform enables inflight application providers to benefit from connectivity powered by the company’s high-capacity, Ka-band global satellite network.

Meherwan Polad, Chief Commercial Officer at Viasat Commercial Services, said: “We listen closely to our 60-plus airline customers around the globe. The message is clear: they want the power to create a differentiated connected experience for their customers while also exploring monetisation possibilities from onboard connectivity.”

“With the Viasat Connected Partner Platform – now and as it evolves with additional applications onboarding – we are live with a solution, a one-stop, flexible enablement platform for airlines,” he continued.
