Cathay Pacific partners up with VEDA by Ovolo for plant-based menu

Cathay Pacific has teamed up with VEDA by Ovolo to offer a host of plant-based dishes onboard.

The Hong Kong airline’s new plant-based menus are available until June 2024 in Premium Economy and Economy classes on selected long-haul flights departing from the region. There will be a rotating selection of dishes throughout the year.

Meals include vegetable masala with green pulao rice, Panang dry curry tofu with cashews and coconut rice, roasted vegetable tagine with halloumi cheese and pearl couscous as well as Northern Thai-style coconut curry noodles with mixed vegetables.

The partnership is set to strengthen Cathay Pacific’s commitment to wellness and sustainability. Similarly, plant-based restaurant VEDA and hotel group Ovolo are committed to ‘ethical eating, conscious cuisine and cutting-edge vegetarian’ through their Plant’d pledge.

Vivian Lo, General Manager of Customer Experience and Design at Cathay Pacific, said: “It gives us great pleasure to announce this new partnership with VEDA, a Hong Kong restaurant that shares our commitment to providing fantastic cuisine while also being more sustainable.”

“Drawing inspiration from the breadth and variety of VEDA’s dishes, we have collaborated with VEDA and Ovolo Hotels Executive Chef Raul Tronco to develop a reimagined selection of plant-forward creations that reflect our brand values of thoughtful and progressive and go beyond the norms of airline vegetarian meals,” added Lo.

Raul Tronco, Executive Chef at VEDA by Ovolo, said: “Designing a meal to be enjoyed at 30,000 feet comes with its challenges. I had to consider everything from how taste buds are affected at altitude, to cooking techniques. After countless hours of recipe testing, I am really pleased with the result and am confident that the curated VEDA inflight dishes offer travellers variety, vibrancy and incredible flavour.”

In 2022, Cathay Pacific removed 56% of its single-use plastic consumption from its 2018 baseline. The airline will be unveiling more inflight dining enhancements in the Premium Economy and Economy classes shortly.
