Sustainability will be a key theme at the Taste of Travel Theatre line-up at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) on May 28.
The programme, which is produced in association with Onboard Hospitality, will see panels of travel professionals debate the environmental challenges faced by operators.
A Cabin Waste Composition Audit Programme hosted by Asian caterer SATS Ltd was recently completed by the Aviation Sustainability Forum (ASF) in Singapore.
Its research results will be announced for the first time at this year’s Taste of Travel event,
Highlights will include cabin waste reduction, complexity and circularity, as well as the billions of dollars per year it is costing airlines and caterers.
A panel of experts will explore how it requires a review of the regulatory barriers to circularity, which must be broken down, and the collaborative cross-section innovation that is essential to re-invent and re-design the inflight products and services of the future.
Matt Crane, a founding member of ASF and the 2024 WTCE Ambassador for Sustainability, will moderate this session on the trade show’s first day.
He said: “The ASF-IATA Cabin Waste Composition Audit Programme is the first of its kind to be completed to this scale and depth. We hope the audits will provide the sector with the foundations to help develop the cabin waste solutions of the future and are delighted to finally share the findings at this year’s WTCE.
“I’m particularly looking forward to discussing with the panel how we can use this data to assess the challenges we face and take a more in-depth look at the potential solutions as part of the sessions at Taste of Travel this year.”
