Onboard Hospitality evolves with new Managing Editor

Onboard Hospitality is pleased to announce the appointment of April Waterston in the newly-created role of Managing Editor.

April will step into the role from February 1 2024 and will be responsible for overseeing the editorial direction of the magazine and its digital channels.

“I am so pleased to take on this new position and responsibility with Onboard Hospitality,” says April.

“It is an industry I have grown to adore and feel so lucky to be involved with. Where else could I combine my love of creativity, sustainability, design, food and – of course – travel?”

“I am so excited to steer Onboard Hospitality into its next chapter, and to connect with industry peers, old and new.”

April first joined the Onboard Hospitality team in July 2019 as a Journalist, and was promoted to Assistant Editor in late 2020. In 2022, she also assumed the role of Digital Editor of Onboard Hospitality‘s parent company BMI Publishing, to expand the digital publishing footprint of BMI’s three main titles.

“I will continue to build Onboard Hospitality’s long-standing reputation as the most reliable and reputable source of the passenger experience industry’s news and opinions. There’s a lot of pressure with nearly 25 years and 100 incredible issues of the magazine to live up to, but I am optimistic that by working closely with our amazing team, the next few years of Onboard Hospitality will be some of the most exciting yet.”

New horizons

The appointment of a Managing Editor is one of a number of changes planned for Onboard Hospitality Magazine in 2024.

Notably, current Editor Stuart Forster has been appointed the magazine’s new Technology and Retail Editor – the first time Onboard Hospitality has ever had an Editor dedicated to covering these increasingly important sectors.

A further panel of global specialist contributors will also be formed.

Other changes for 2024 include a revamp of the magazine to celebrate its 25th year of publication, as well as a refresh of the title’s digital offering with an increased focus on multimedia content.

This year also marks the 10th year of the prestigious Onboard Hospitality Awards, which is on track for a record-breaking year.

These are the only industry awards with a ceremony held at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) in Hamburg in May – a testament to their industry standing.

April adds: “Onboard Hospitality wouldn’t be the magazine it is today without the longstanding support of the industry.

“We hope to continue serving you for years to come, and encourage anyone with a news story, voice or opinion to get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!”
