Japan Airlines chooses Panasonic Avionics for IFEC

Japan Airlines (JAL) has selected Panasonic Avionics to equip its new A350-1000 aircraft with digital solutions, including inflight entertainment (IFE) and connectivity (IFC) systems.

The new digital solutions are being line fit on JAL’s 13 new A350-1000s, the first of which entered service in January and is now flying routes from Tokyo Haneda Airport to John F Kennedy Airport.

Passengers in all cabins can connect their personal headphones to the IFE system using Panasonic Avionics’ Bluetooth audio technology. The IFE system can also be integrated with the JAL mobile app, allowing travellers to create a favourites list pre-flight. This feature is set to launch in the first half of 2024.

As well as offering inflight Wi-fi, Panasonic Avionics has begun an airline trial of its global live TV service. Passengers can now access live programmes such as NHK World Premium and BBC World News. New features have also been added to its inflight map, including a kid’s map.

Hernan Abbes, Vice President of Global Sales at Panasonic Avionics, said: “Japan Airlines is a longstanding and valued Panasonic Avionics partner, and we are honoured that they have selected our in-flight entertainment, connectivity, and digital solutions for the latest aircraft in their fleet. We are confident that the superior cabin experiences our solutions deliver will enhance the Japan Airlines brand and drive greater passenger loyalty.”

Masaharu Iwamoto, Vice President of the Product and Services Development Department at Japan Airlines, added: “JAL will leverage the new in-flight entertainment system to deliver a superior level of comfort and engagement through our new A350-1000 aircraft.

“Each guest will be able to design their personalized passenger journey across the entire length of their long international flight. With our new service, we are confident that passengers will enjoy an exciting blend of the comparable conveniences they enjoy on the ground with the hospitality in the sky that is only available from JAL.”
