Muirhead has unveiled the world’s first naturally fire-resistant, protein-based aviation biofoam. BioPRO promises enhanced passenger comfort, durability, fire safety and environmental benefits.
Made with hydrolysed collagen, a by-product of Muirhead’s leather manufacturing process, BioPRO is patented. It does not contain melamine or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are known as ‘forever chemicals’.
Muirhead bonds collagen into the chemistry of the foam, resulting in it being strong, durable and intumescent – meaning it swells when heated, increasing in volume. The bio-content is a functioning part of the foam, eliminating internal abrasion and boosting its lifespan.
The product is designed to adapt, providing targeted support for different body types. Independent testing confirms its ergonomic performance.
Traditional foams are cut from large blocks but BioPRO is moulded to specifications, eliminating waste. Moulded cushions ensure consistent shape and size, guaranteeing uniform aesthetics throughout a cabin.
