Vueling has partnered with Hearlo, the assistive communication app designed to make flying easier for passengers with hearing or verbal communication difficulties.
The app works fully offline, ensuring accessibility throughout a journey and incorporates functionality such as instant translation and voice recognition.
Integration of the Hearlo app across Vueling’s inflight experience will enable passengers to communicate independently with cabin crew and airport staff.
Hearlo’s features include text-to-speech translation and visual pictograms. Pre-set travel phrases are available in more than 10 languages, including Spanish, Hindi and Arabic.
The free app has been designed to break communication barriers during air travel via an easy and intuitive interface.
The Hearlo tools include short phrases that enable users to build quick, personalised responses. It also has an interactive, step-by-step travel guide explaining each part of the flying process.
Hearlo was developed by Spanish start-up Asteroid Technologies, which triumphed over more than 70 contenders to win Vueling’s Next Gen Aviation Challenge in the Customer Experience category.
The competition was held as part of the 4YFN 2025 Conference in Barcelona, which recognised the app’s potential to remove communication barriers and make air travel more inclusive for passengers with diverse needs.
The partnership forms part of Vueling’s wider commitment to improving accessibility across its operations. The airline already provides dedicated support for passengers with reduced mobility and specific assistance for those with additional needs.
