Texan BBQ sauce introduced on British Airways

Austin-based Franklin Barbeque has debuted its Texan BBQ sauce onboard British Airways.

The barbecue joint’s limited-edition bottles of BA-B-Q sauce will be served to passengers in Club World flying from Austin to London throughout March.

Next month marks 10 years of direct British Airways flights between the city and London.

Passengers will also enjoy a Texas-inspired barbecue menu onboard, showcasing the “rich and savoury” taste of Austin’s barbecue tradition.

Executive Chef for British Airways, Mark Brega., curated the menu by drawing inspiration from his visit to the city and pitmaster Aaron Franklin.

Club World and World Traveller Plus passengers will receive lightly smoked beef brisket with sweet corn pudding, as well as finely spiced bean stew, pickled cucumber, red onion and vegetable slaw. Those in World Traveller can find smoky chicken barbecue with a side of rice and beans.

Calum Laming, Chief Customer Officer at British Airways, said: “We’re excited to celebrate a decade of connecting Austin and London. Bringing the flavours of Austin to the skies with this special menu is one way of us celebrating this remarkable city and expressing gratitude for the support we’ve received over the past 10 years. And we can’t wait for passengers to enjoy our limited-edition bottles of Franklin Barbecue‘s Original BBQ sauce.”

Mark Brega added: “Franklin Barbecue is a legendary establishment in Austin. Known for its long lines and mouth-watering brisket, it has earned a reputation as one of the best barbecue joints in the world.

“We are always looking for culinary inspiration in the cities we fly, so it was a delight to meet Aaron Franklin and learn from his passion and expertise to share Franklin Barbecue’s Original BBQ sauce with our passengers.”
