SWISS introduces signature cocktail

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is making its first own-creation cocktail available onboard its flights from July. The new signature cocktail has been developed by the airline in collaboration with Zurich’s IGNIV by Andreas Caminada Bar and the bartender and gastro entrepreneur Sarah Madritsch.

SWISS Alpine Essence will be available to passengers in First and Business class cabins on SWISS long-haul flights.

Madritsch was the manager at Zurich’s IGNIV by Andreas Caminada Bar, which is renowned for its innovative drinks.

The new SWISS signature cocktail blends dry white vermouth and elderflower syrup with crème de menthe, white crème de cacao and citrus and herbal notes.

The beverage is like a light, floral variant of the White Negroni and is ideal as an aperitif or a meal accompaniment.

“We wanted to offer SWISS travellers a genuine taste experience that combines lightness with all the freshness of the Alps – just as can be sensed and felt outdoors in Switzerland’s natural landscape,” explained Madritsch.

Heike Birlenbach, Chief Commercial Officer at SWISS, said: “With our new SWISS Alpine Essence, we’re bringing our first-ever signature cocktail aboard. It’s another key element in the various initiatives that we’re taking this year to further refine our guests’ air travel experience – all of which are hallmarked by strong Swiss credentials and a keen devotion to detail.”

Passengers in First class will also be able to it as their pre-departure welcome drink.

Plans are afoot to add the signature cocktail to the SWISS Saveurs inflight food and beverage range, provisionally in September. That means Economy class passengers will be able to sample SWISS Alpine Essence on short- and medium-haul flights.
