Sky-Blue has designed a more sustainable paper cup after identifying a gap in the inflight market.
Designed for both environmental and operational impact, Sky-Blue’s Nimbuva cup replaces conventional PE and PLA lining with a “groundbreaking and innovative” 99.25% plastic-free solution, engineered to be 100% compostable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Sky-Blue said the FSC-certified paper cup is leak resistant and durable enough to be used for hot drinks such as coffee and tea, cold soft drinks, beer and wine, as well as most spirits and cocktails, removing the need for multiple cup types.
Stackable and lightweight, it saves space while cutting procurement complexity.
The cup is supported by global certifications and is available with an airline’s own custom branding.
“As we developed the Nimbuva paper cups, our aim was to design something simple but game-changing – a single cup that could reduce single-use plastic onboard,” said Milan Shingadia, Project Manager at Sky-Blue.
“Airlines can also now achieve their sustainability targets without budget impact. Our Nimbuva paper cups deliver at almost similar price points to standard PE and PLA alternatives, eliminating the traditional cost barrier to sustainable alternatives.

Sky-Blue is currently in discussions with several major carriers about integrating the range into their onboard services.
