Letronics has launched an accessible lift for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs).
The Letronics WL780 PRM Transfer Lift can transport those with accessibility needs from wheelchairs to aeroplane seats “safely and comfortably”.
Boarding procedures for PRMs has often resulted in both physical discomfort and a loss of dignity.
To tackle this issue, Letronics’ new device has eliminated the need for human lifting, which reduces the risk of accidents such as back strain. It works across an array of aircraft types, too.
Gregg Cohen, President of Letronics, said: “This product underscores our commitment to enhancing passenger accessibility and safety in the aviation industry.
“We believe that our innovative design will set a new standard for PRM transfers, providing airlines and airports with a reliable and efficient solution.”
The device, which has not yet been widely deployed, has received positive feedback from PRM advocacy groups.
An advocate from the Reduced Mobility Rights group added: “We’ve seen far too many cases of passengers with reduced mobility being injured or subjected to undignified treatment during boarding.
“This lift could be the answer to these ongoing issues by providing a safer, more standardised process across airlines.”
The Letronics Lift is set to make its debut at APEX Global Expo 2024.
