Korean Air is set to bring its inflight catering and duty‑free operations fully back under its wing, following a decision to repurchase the remaining 80% stake in Korean Air C&D Service from Hahn and Company.
Korean C&D is the unit that handles the carrier’s inflight catering and duty-free operations.
The airline’s board approved the KRW 750 billion acquisition on March 12, covering more than five million shares. Once the deal closes, Korean Air C&D Service will again operate as a wholly owned subsidiary.
In bringing these services in-house, Korean Air says it will secure a reliable supply of inflight meals, improve its duty‑free lineup and sharpen its overall service. These upgrades come as the carrier prepares for the debut of its integrated airline.
Korean Air first sold the 80% stake in 2020 to bolster liquidity during the pandemic, holding on to a 20% share. With the buyback, the carrier restores full control of a core element of its hospitality offering – positioning itself to deliver a more seamless onboard experience.
