Korean Air introduces own-brand lager

In collaboration with Playground Brewery, Korean Air is introducing its own branded craft beer, KAL’s Lager.

Korean Air’s research found that an American Lager, with a light appearance and pleasant toasty, grainy flavour and fruity elements would be palatable to most tastes. The beer is described as offering a “delightful harmony of tropical fruit aromas and a refreshing taste.”

A spokesperson for the airline explained that Korean Air wanted to launch a premium craft beer for the summer season that could promote its brand and give passengers a unique experience. The lager is packaged in a can designed with an image of an aircraft soaring in the blue sky.

Korean Air passengers can accrue additional mileage by purchasing the branded lager during the promotional period from July 27 to September 30. Passengers who buy over KRW10,000 worth of canned beer, including KAL’s Lager can earn additional SkyPass miles.

“We’re delighted to launch and bring our customers a refreshing craft beer to beat the heat while providing an opportunity to accrue additional mileage,” said Young Soo Yoo, Managing Vice President of the Loyalty Department at Korean Air. “We hope experiencing KAL’s Lager on board and at the airport lounges will help build joy and excitement during our passengers’ travels.”

Playground Brewery is a highly acclaimed Korean craft brewery that was established in 2015 and has a positive reputation in the industry. Its name conjures the happiness of childhood that the brewery hopes people will experience from the first sip of its beer.

Playground has already demonstrated successful cooperative partnerships with high-profile companies in South Korea, such as the SSG Landers baseball club and A Twosome Place cafe.

KAL’s lager will be available at Korean Air’s lounges at both Incheon and Gimpo International Airports from July 27.

Passengers will be able to enjoy the beer onboard from September.
