Korean Air will debut its new Prestige Class seats, which prioritise passenger privacy, during the inaugural flight of its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner on July 25.
The flight from Seoul Incheon to Tokyo Narita will see the first use of the Prestige Class seats, which are dubbed ‘Prestige Suites 2.0’. They have an open top, enhancing passengers’ sense of openness, while maintaining a level of privacy. Each seat is designed to function as a virtually independent space.
The seats fully recline to a flat 180 degrees, transforming into a bed. The seat length has been extended, measuring 78 inches (c. 198 cm), and has a pitch of 46 inches (117 cm) with a width of 21 inches (53 cm).
The newly introduced seating is designed to offer passengers a luxurious experience. Their design features traditional Korean patterns, including traditional Jogakbo patchworking, to showcase Korea’s culture.
The suite’s interior features a cream colour, inspired by Joseon Dynasty porcelain, and a gold hue reminiscent of brassware. The objective is to create a warm and elegant atmosphere. Shades of charcoal and black with a blue tint offer a counterpoint.
Expanded personal space is provided next to the armrest, which features a table for cups and small personal items, a personal storage compartment, a wireless phone charger, dual 220V/110V outlets and two high-speed USB-C ports.
New Economy class seating
The Economy class cabin aboard Korean Air’s Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner features seating in a 3-3-3 configuration. The seats have woven patterns in bold colours and offer a recline of up to 120 degrees plus headrests that are adjustable in multiple directions. The pitch of the seats is 32 inches (81 cm) and their width is 17.2 inches (44 cm).
High-resolution monitors supporting 4K resolution are available for the inflight entertainment experience in both cabin classes. Prestige class passengers can view 24-inch (60 cm) monitors with Bluetooth audio support.
The Economy class seats feature 13-inch (33 cm) screens. They are approximately two inches (5 cm) larger than the displays on other models of aircraft.
Inflight Wi-Fi is also available on the Korean flag carrier’s new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.
The 787-10 is the largest of the 787 Dreamliner series. Its fuselage is 68.3 metres in length, approximately five meters longer than the 787-9. This enables the 787-10 to carry 15% more passengers and cargo.
The aircraft’s fuselage is made from carbon composite materials, which reduce weight and increase durability, helping lower carbon emissions by more than 20% compared to similar-sized aircraft.
Korean Air‘s 787-10 aircraft is configured with a total of 325 seats, made up of 36 Prestige Class seats and 289 Economy class seats. The 787-10 will initially be deployed on short-haul routes, to stabilise operations, before being deployed on long-haul routes such as the Seoul Incheon-Vancouver route.
