Wi-Fi connectivity aboard KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ first Airbus A321neo is provided by Viasat. The inflight connectivity solution has been factory-installed.
“We have enjoyed several years of providing trusted Wi-Fi aboard KLM’s 737 and E195 aircraft servicing flights across Europe,” said Don Buchman, General Manager and Vice President, Commercial Aviation at Viasat.
“We are honoured to expand that connectivity service across the international routes served by KLM’s new A321neo aircraft,” he continued.
Passengers will be able to access fast Wi-Fi aboard the Airbus A321neo from mid-September, when it begins serving destinations in Europe. The A321neo will start operating services to Copenhagen, Berlin and Stockholm followed by Paris, Prague and Vienna.
The aircraft is part of KLM’s €7 billion fleet renewal programme. Three additional Airbus A321neos will join it in 2024.
KLM employees chose the theme for the naming of the aircraft and selected butterflies. The names of the first four A321neo aircraft will be Koninginnepage (Swallowtail), Braamvlinder (Peach Blossom), Citroenvlinder (Common Brimstone) and Porseleinvlinder (Clouded Magpie).
Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM, said: “‘Butterflies’ emerged as the winning theme, which ties in nicely with the transformation we’re embarking on with the new fleet.”
The Airbus A321neo produces less CO2 and approximately half the noise of a Boeing 737, so promises cleaner, quieter and more efficient flight operations. In comparison, the A321neo is approximately 21% more fuel efficient.
In terms of passenger experience, the A321neo offers improved comfort through wider seats, larger tables and more spacious luggage bins. Every seat is equipped with a USB-C port and a holder for a mobile or tablet.
The aircraft also offers greater convenience for the crew, including a wider aisle and easy-to-open luggage bins.
KLM’s A321neos feature airline branding and mood lighting that adapts to each stage of the journey.
