Onboard Hospitality recently reported on the new global partnership between deSter and Nexus. As the principal and founder of Nexus, how does this collaboration come into play?
Nexus takes a traveller-centric approach to the airline and hospitality industry, shaping memorable experiences through thoughtful design, brand partnerships and innovation. With its global reach and multidisciplinary expertise, deSter enhances this vision by delivering tailored, high-quality solutions that meet the needs of today’s travellers. As passenger expectations continue to evolve, our collaboration allows us to create more meaningful and refined onboard experiences, combining premium design with carefully curated brand elements.
What will be your role within this new setup?
We have combined our strengths under the newly formed deSter x Nexus division, a dedicated Comfort and Amenities unit that I lead. As Vice President for this product category, I oversee our existing client partnerships and drive market expansion, working closely with the deSter leadership team and reporting directly to the CEO. This structure allows us to seamlessly integrate our expertise and develop innovative solutions that redefine onboard comfort.
After discussions with deSter, how do you interpret ‘Elevate Your Travel’ within the amenity kit segment?
To me, this vision comes to life in two key ways. First, structurally – deSter’s commitment to enhancing the airline experience led to this strategic partnership. By combining our expertise, we can refine and optimise every detail, ensuring a seamless and elevated experience for travellers.
Second, experientially – we are redefining what true onboard comfort means by addressing key touchpoints that prioritise wellbeing, relaxation and delight. Our goal is to create tailored, brand-driven concepts that make every journey memorable, spanning all cabin classes and travel styles.
What is the key takeaway you want visitors to have from this year’s WTCE?
The deSter x Nexus partnership is introducing a fresh, forward-thinking approach to Comfort and Amenities, delivering experiences that go beyond the ordinary. Airlines looking to enhance passenger wellbeing and create unforgettable travel moments will find the solutions they need with us.
What are you most looking forward to at WTCE this year?
We’re excited to connect with airline partners, industry leaders, and innovators to explore how we can redefine onboard comfort and well-being. WTCE is the perfect platform to showcase our vision, creativity, and expertise while sparking meaningful discussions on the future of passenger experience.
In addition, I am looking forward to deepening the topic of wellbeing & hydration in individual discussions as part of a keynote speech by an Olympic medalist. The event will take place on April 9 at 15:15h at our stand, 4F60.
Yves Alavo is the Founder of Nexus and VP Amenities at deSter.
