Finnair celebrates Moomin’s 29th anniversary

Finnair is celebrating its 29th year in partnership with Moomin, the beloved creation of Finnish children’s writer Tove Jansson.

The Moomin characters, who live in Moominvalley, convey values such as adventure, love and tolerance.

Finnair and Moomin started their collaboration in 1995.

Moomin characters were featured on the livery of two widebody A350 aircrafts last year. As part of the partnership, children flying with Finnair will also receive a Moomin kids’ kit.

A famous quote that travellers can relate to is “You must go on a long journey before you can really find out how wonderful home is.” From the book Comet in Moominland (1946), Moomintroll and Sniff set out on a journey to learn more about a comet that is approaching the valley.

Another is “The world is full of great and wonderful things for those who are ready for them.”  From the title Moominpappa at Sea (1965), Moomin’s father takes the entire family on a quest to find purpose and adventure on a remote island.

One more quote reads: “There’s a lot of things one can’t understand. But why should everything be exactly as one is used to having it?” The book Moominsummer Madness (1954) occurs during midsummer, when a flood forces the Moomin family to leave their home and end up in a floating theatre.
