SOLA Netherlands commits to an eco future

SOLA Netherlands has, over recent decades, become the byword for quality design and manufacture of airline cutlery and passenger service equipment.
As the supplier of quality cutlery to the majority of the world’s major airlines, SOLA Netherlands is primarily a Design House working closely with airlines and also within its own design studio to maintain its position at the forefront of innovation, practicality and style.
Maarten Grisel , director of sales, says: “The SOLA team feels a real sense of responsibility to everyone in the industry and its open supply chain, and at this very worrying time for all of us in the business, the SOLA team is determined to maintain its cool and take every precaution to safeguard its employees and customers.”
A Dutch family business, SOLA’s Design House and management team work out of the Netherlands, but a large majority of the products are manufactured overseas under contracts with very carefully selected manufacturers. This requires particular diligence in ensuring their standards and values are maintained across the supplier factories all over the world.
Last year, SOLA Netherlands committed itself to also adopting Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) into its business strategy. The SDG’s are a collection of 17 global goals designed as a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. They were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030. The goals are broad based and inter-dependent and each includes a list of targets which are measured with defined indicators. A variety of tools exist to track and visualise progress towards the goals.
SOLA Netherlands has set itself apart from competitors and is formulating its very own “Gold Standard” not just for the products it produces but for the way they are made, used and recycled too.
Grisel adds: “Going forward, SOLA Netherlands Cutlery Design will continue to innovate and lead in the industry. As airlines themselves embrace the modern, and very healthy culture of doing all they can to reduce their impact on our world’s eco systems, both environmentally and socially, SOLA Netherlands is confident it can support their ambitions and be a key member of the portfolio of solutions providers.”
