Alaska Airlines introduces first custom craft beer

Alaska Airlines has introduced its first-ever custom craft beer.

Called Cloud Cruiser, the co-branded India Pale Ale (IPA) is brewed by Seattle-based Fremont Brewing

Passengers can find the beverage on a complimentary basis in First and Premium class cabins and for purchase in the main cabin. It will also be served in select lounges.

Fremont Brewing, which crafts small artisan beers in the Fremont neighbourhood of Seattle, worked closely with Alaska to produce a variety of blends to taste test 30,000 feet in the air. Both companies settled on the bright orange, melon and tropical notes of the IPA.

The can depicts an Alaska Airlines 737-8 MAX soaring among the clouds above a retro-inspired backdrop of snow-capped mountains, trees and water synonymous with Washington state. Artists from Alaska and Fremont teamed up for the can’s final design.

Todd Traynor-Corey, Managing Director of Guest Products at Alaska Airlines, said: “The Cloud Cruiser is the result of two beloved Pacific Northwest brands coming together to create a top-tier beverage to add to our line-up.

“The only place in the world you’ll be able to find this one-of-a-kind craft beer is if you’re flying on Alaska or in one of our lounges. We have already received feedback from the first passengers who say they can’t wait to fly with us again and order another can of Cloud Cruiser.”

Matt Lincecum, Founder and Owner of Fremont Brewing, added: “Cloud Cruiser IPA is brewed with a select blend of malts and Washington-grown to stay fresh in the air with you. Fremont crafted Cloud Cruiser using years of experience providing beer to Alaska’s flights across the country. Because fresh beer matters!”
