Air India announces new IFE system 

Air India is introducing the Panasonic eX3 IFE inflight entertainment (IFE) system that will offer an immersive entertainment experience to travellers on long-haul flights. 

The new IFE experience will be available on Air India’s A350, B777-200LR and new widebody aircraft. Air India’s legacy widebody fleet, which is scheduled to undergo a complete refurbishment of all interiors starting in the second half of 2024, in a US$400 million retrofit programme, will subsequently feature the new IFE system and expanded content offering. 

Aboard Air India’s A350 aircraft Business class passengers will have 21-inch HD touchscreens while those in Premium Economy have 13.3-inch and Economy travellers 12-inch HD touchscreens. The IFE system features capacitive touchscreens and handsets, USB and AC power plus personalised user interfaces.  

New headsets will be available in all cabins. Aboard the A350, Air India’s Business and Premium Economy passengers will be provided with lightweight, active noise-cancelling headsets with superior sound quality for an immersive entertainment experience. Passengers in Economy will be provided reusable earphones that come with a vibrant red body and aubergine silicone tips and are packaged in eco-friendly pouches. 

Entertainment on Air India 

Aboard the A350 fleet, Arc will be introduced, an immersive inflight map experience from Panasonic Avionics Corporation. Arc’s interactive Explore mode lets passengers explore the world’s geography, read curated city guides and zoom in to street map views of select cities. The functionality includes real-time flight data and world clock time zones.  

The full suite of new IFE content features over 2,200 hours of entertainment content across formats and genres, including 1,000 hours of movies, 600 hours of television and 600 hours of audio entertainment. 

Air India passengers will be able to choose from over 250 Indian movies spanning decades and genres. It will be the largest library of Indian content in the skies, featuring classic films such as Sholay and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and contemporary Indian cinema including Kantara and Drishyam 2

The new content catalogue offers a rich spectrum of regional cinema with 76 Indian regional movies in eight languages, in addition to a host of popular and engaging web series and digital content. 

Hollywood and international movies  

Air India’s Hollywood collection will offer approximately 200 movies, including BAFTA and Academy Award-winning titles, along with nominees such as Barbie and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One.  

Passengers will also be able to binge-watch franchises, including Harry Potter, Spider-Man and Despicable Me.  

The cinematic repertoire features critically acclaimed films from around the world in 14 languages, including Japanese, Korean, Arabic as well as European languages. 

TV choices aboard Air India 

Air India’s new in-flight library has more than 900 episodes of Western, Indian and international television shows and digital content spanning an array of genres and categories. It includes selections from the biggest streaming and over-the-top OTT platforms, including Paramount, HBO, Prime, Sony Liv and Hulu.  

There are over 40 full series, including titles such as the award-winning SuccessionThe Last of UsYellowstoneReacher and British dramas such as SherlockThe Night Manager and Doctor Who.

Audio and entertainment for young travellers

Exclusively programmed, Air India Radio has podcasts, including Cup O’tales, an Air India special edition series on the history of cricket world cups, a music collection of 800 choices from across genres and over 60 curated playlists. The music collection features all-time classic albums including choices that are pop, rock, dance, jazz, classical, Bollywood, Indipop plus Hindustani and Carnatic classical.  

Young flyers will be able to choose from more than 55 hours of curated audio and video content, divided into three age-related sections: Pre-School, Kids and Teens. They include favourites such as CoComelonBlippi, Baby SharkMickey MouseKaradi Tales and the complete Pretty Little Liars series.
