Shanghai – The Paris of the East – welcomed Gate Gourmet’s Division APAC SPICE team for a three day workshop at Gate Gourmet Shanghai’s state of the art facility. The workshop began on March 4th with a one day workshop for some of the Divisions Executive chefs. Mike Pooley (vp ICE) started the day with a dynamic and inspiring overview of the recent SPICE & ICE activities in other parts of the GG network. On March 5th some twenty airline executives joined the SPICE workshop including representatives from Cathay Pacific, Continental Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines, Hong Kong Express, Air China, China Southern, Hainan Airlines were amongst the participants. They were introduced to SPICE by Anders Schultz (director ICE APAC) and to the gategroup by Mr. Pooley.

“The SPICE Girls” team won the SPICE Culinary competition, where contestants had to design and cook a Business class hot meal. The winning team combined traditional and western ingredients to perfection and came up with a beef dish that any airline would be proud to serve in their business class.

On the final day the SPICE workshop visited Sunqiao Modern Agriculture Development Zone. This agriculture development zone was set up in 1994 as a joint venture between a Dutch agriculture company and the Shanghai Municipal Government to bring hydroponics’ production methods to China. Today it is one of the biggest vegetable producing areas in the Yangtze River Delta area. The participants enjoyed the highlight of the second day, a cookery demonstration by star Chef Jereme Leung, chef proprietor of the famous Whampoa Club in Shanghai and Beijing. Home
